TPD is proud to celebrate the retirement of Tom Walter, who concluded an exceptional 44-year career in traffic engineering, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and traffic operations on July 31. Colleagues, industry partners, and former coworkers gathered at the Plumsteadville Inn in Pipersville, Pennsylvania, to recognize Tom’s remarkable professional journey and the lasting impact he has made throughout the transportation industry.
Prior to joining TPD in 2016, Tom spent 35 years with PennDOT District 5-0, where he served as Assistant District Traffic Manager. In that role, he oversaw a wide range of traffic operations programs, including traffic signals, ITS, highway occupancy permits, special hauling permits, and roundabout coordination. Throughout his tenure at TPD, Tom remained a trusted advisor and technical leader, supporting major traffic operations and signal system initiatives across Pennsylvania and New Jersey. His work included projects for municipalities, PennDOT, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA), and other public agencies, spanning signal upgrades, traffic studies, ITS deployments, and traffic management improvements.
We thank Tom for his years of dedication, leadership, and mentorship, and wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement. His contributions have helped shape transportation systems throughout the region and leave a lasting legacy at TPD.
