TPD performed a comprehensive constructibility review of the PennDOT project, including an evaluation of the previously developed waterline attachment concept. Through coordination with pipe manufacturers and contractors, the team identified several significant concerns with the original attachment approach that could have affected feasibility and long‑term performance.
To address these issues, TPD conducted an alternatives analysis to determine the most practical and reliable solution. After evaluating multiple options, directional drilling emerged as the preferred method due to its constructibility, reduced risk, and overall suitability for the site conditions.
TPD’s strong understanding of construction processes—combined with well‑established working relationships with the project designers, PennDOT, and SEPTA—helped guide the team toward an alternative that was ultimately supported by all stakeholders.
