As the Prime Consultant, TPD is currently preparing a feasibility study and preliminary engineering design plans for the construction of a four-mile trail from the Hazelwood Green to the Carrie Furnace site along the Monongahela Riverfront.   

TPD is providing the following services:   

  • Overall project management to prepare a feasibility study and preliminary engineering plans with a combination of on-street and off-street alignments. 
  • Railroad right-of-way/City street right-of-way investigation. 
  • Railroad coordination with CSX. 
  • Development of three potential trail alignment options. 
  • Public engagement with the Hazelwood community. 
  • Coordination with agencies, including DOMI, Allegheny County Redevelopment Authority (which owns Carrie Furnace), and PRT. 
  • Development of preliminary design plans (30%), including on-street alignment, off-street trail alignment, and two bike/ped structures over the CSX railroad. 
  • Preliminary construction cost estimates for the overall trail project.
