Ecusta Rail Trail Planning, Design, & Engineering

Project Details
Location:Henderson County GovernmentShare

TPD has been involved in all stages of the Ecusta Rail Trail project, encompassing nearly 20 miles from Hendersonville to Brevard, NC. The first phase, extending approximately 6 miles from Hendersonville to Horseshoe, NC, is currently under construction. As a sub-consultant to JMT, TPD completed planning, engineering, and conceptual plan development for trail roadway crossings (at-grade) and provided support for NCDOT coordination. TPD’s crossing evaluations included a study of traffic conditions (speed and volume) as well as geometric review for safe stopping sight distances, traffic calming, and other potential crossing treatments. For this phase, TPD also led public engagement and communication efforts including the use of Esri StoryMaps to communicate project progress.

The second Henderson County phase, from Horseshoe to the border with Transylvania County, is currently in design. For this phase, again as a sub-consultant to JMT, TPD completed or is completing planning, engineering, and conceptual plan development for trail roadway crossings (at-grade) and NCDOT coordination.

For the final, Transylvania County phase, TPD is leading the planning, design, and permitting efforts. This phase is also currently in the design stage and extends from the Henderson County border to Brevard.
