TPD was selected as the prime consultant for this construction inspection open end contract with work orders predominately in Chester County, PA. In addition to the management of the agreement, TPD is also managing our two subconsultants. A sampling of the projects inspected under this contract are as follows:

SR 0041 Section VCB – Replacement of two structures over Valley Creek and Officer’s Run

TPD is currently providing construction inspection services for this work order. One structure is a pre-cast concrete arch structure and the other involves a steel beam superstructure replacement on pre-cast beam seats. The project is a high-pressure quick turnaround project which utilized A+Bx bidding that resulted in a road closure time period of only 42 days. The inspection team for this project includes nine (9) staff members to cover the 24/7 operations.

SR 1035 Section HBH – Linfield Road over Schuylkill River

TPD provided construction inspection services for the rehabilitation of the existing 373-foot long, 3-span steel Pony Truss bridge. The project involves structural steel repairs, structural steel painting, and deck replacement. Substructure and bearing repairs were also performed. In addition to the inspection of the structural repairs, our team was also responsible for the 10-mile long detour route.

SR 0023 HBG – Valley Forge Road over Pickering Creek

TPD provided construction inspection services for the superstructure replacement for this existing 205-foot long, 3-span bridge. Portions of the piers and abutments were also demolished and reconstructed to accommodate the new precast bulb tee beams. The project involved new foundation drains around the abutments as well as a new deck, barriers, sleeper slabs, and approach slabs. This project was on a heavily traveled route and includes a large detour with temporary traffic signals and a separate truck detour. This project was under a lot of scrutiny due the importance to commuters in the region. The project was accelerated and completed 6 months ahead of schedule.

SR 3023 Section HBH – Aston Mills Road/Birney Highway over West Branch Chester Creek

TPD is currently providing construction inspection services for the rehabilitation of the existing composite I-beam structure. The existing superstructure is being removed and replaced with new steel I-beams, concrete bridge deck and barrier walls. In addition, scour protection was provided for the structure, which will also carry replaced water and gas lines.

SR 0041 Over Amtrak

TPD provided construction inspection services for the on-demand bridge rehabilitation of the six-span, steel girder, Route 41 bridge over AMTRAK in Atglen Borough, Chester County, PA. The project included Type 2 and 3 deck repairs, replacement of bearing pads, replacement of diaphragms, reconstruction of the ends of the existing deck, repainting ends of the steel girders, and repair of deteriorated concrete and rocker bearing bolts at pier locations. Bituminous milling and overlay of the deck surface was also performed.

SR 0013, Section HBT – Districtwide Bridge Rehab Group T

TPD provided construction inspection services for this Districtwide 7-structure stone/masonry arch group bridge rehabilitation project with structures in Delaware County, Montgomery County, and Philadelphia County. One bridge on this work order includes work on the Frankford Avenue Bridge over Pennypack Creek which includes rehabilitation of the existing stone arch bridge, excavating the arch backfill and replacing it with lightweight concrete, repairing deteriorated concrete along the arch barrel, and repointing stone masonry along the arch barrel.

Frankford Avenue Bridge Rehabilitation

TPD provided construction inspection services during the complex rehabilitation of the historic Frankford Avenue Bridge, which is a closed spandrel, stone masonry arch bridge. It is the oldest bridge in the United States, built in 1697.
